Please join us in discussing Recognizing and Removing Barriers to Family Engagement
Your first question might be, "What is a 'Father Friendly' school?"
It's time to think about Back to School events. Will your school be ready to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all family members? While many schools work to be "inclusive", many claim to be, but fail in being "father-friendly".
Being inclusive and being father-friendly requires an understanding that there will be students who don't have a "dad" in their life. It must be made clear that father-friendly programming is intended for ALL families, regardless of family situation.
For many families, the Back to School Night might be the only time that some family members set foot on school property during the entire school year. This is especially true for fathers and other male role models of your students. Your BTS Night may be your only opportunity to engage with this significant population and have a conversation.
Wouldn't it be nice to have the ability to have a table at your BTS Night with a message that says, "We are a school that is inclusive and sees value in your presence and support - DADS have a place here - all school year long".
The easiest and most cost effective way to be inclusive and father-friendly is to employ one of the nationally recognized school-based father-friendly programs.

The National Alliance for Father Friendly Schools is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides information and resources for educators and parent organizations for the purpose of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment in the school community. This is essential in providing a positive education experience for our nation's children. Family engagement is a significant part of the school community environment. In many schools, family engagement is a required element in sustaining funding.
Unfortunately, many family members are often unintentionally overlooked and undervalued by educators. NAFFS provides resources to recognize and remove barriers to transformative family engagement.
The National Alliance for Father Friendly Schools is able to provide speakers for keynote presentations and educational workshops. Currently, Keith Schumacher serves as our Executive Director. He can inspire your audience to look at family engagement differently and bring in more family members to be engaged and volunteer at your school.
As a national leader, Keith Schumacher has had a goal of giving every child an opportunity to have strong positive role models leading them to the greatest success possible.
Keith is available for keynote presentations and as a workshop facilitator. Speaking fees are generally waived for school districts and nonprofit organizations. You can get this nationally recognized speaker at your event for just the cost of travel expenses. Click the button below to learn more.
You might be very surprised at the experience of a father trying to become engaged at a local school. Often, unintentional barriers keep fathers and father figures from volunteering at a local school or coming back after their first experience.
We provide in-depth training on recognizing the pitfalls of first impressions and seemingly innocent comments that turn family members away.
We also recommend best practices that will help your school or district build an inclusive family engagement program that creates a positive school culture and environment.

We would like to thank FOCUS Broadband for supporting NAFFS through a generous Community Grant.
As a cooperative, FOCUS Broadband is dedicated to helping improve the communities we serve. Each year, FOCUS Broadband awards $40,000 to the numerous causes and worthwhile organizations that make a positive difference in the lives of local resident’s through our Community Grant Program. We’ve awarded more than $1 million in community and education grants since the program’s inception in 2006.
With this generous grant from FOCUS Broadband, The Alliance will be able to provide information and links to resources for family engagement programming to school administrators throughout Eastern North Carolina. In addition, the templates for the promotional items will be used later to support schools across the U.S.
North Brunswick High School in Leland (Brunswick County), North Carolina launched an All Pro Dad Chapter at the end of the 2023-24 school year. The All Pro Dad Chapters program is a member of the National Alliance for Father Friendly Schools. APDC provides a father friendly family engagement curriculum specifically for families with students in grades 6-12.
This program will continue at North Brunswick into the 2024-25 school year.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
